Kristie Hicks - Interview Coach and Makeup Artist

Spotlight Consulting welcomes Kristie Hicks to our team of pageant professionals. Kristie is no stranger to the world of pageantry.  She is a former Miss Kentucky America and Miss Kentucky Teen USA; placing First Runner-Up to Miss Teen USA. She has a degree in Theatre and Radio-Television from Morehead State University and is a member of The Screen Actors Guild. Kristie has performed in independent films, national and regional commercials, stage productions, and has done extensive voice-over work. She has a Billboard Magazine Award for her work in morning radio and has recently completed her first feature-length screenplay. She is currently a regional makeup artist for Lancome USA, Christian Dior, and Bobbi Brown.

Kristie will be providing many services for Spotlight Consulting to include:  resume and bio creation, platform development, interview and communication skills, and makeup artistry services.  Kristie is located in the Louisville, Kentucky area and works with girls throughout the midwest. Spotlight Consulting welcomes Maria Montgomery to our team! Miss Kentucky USA 2009 and Fourth Runner-Up at Miss USA, Maria is an active professional model for Ford Models in Chicago, Advantage Models in Nashville, and Tony Bowls.  She is currently studying to become a Speech Pathologist at Eastern Kentucky University.

As a pageant coach and judge for over ten years, I have had the opportunity to work with and observe many young women in competitions at all levels. From those experiences, I know one thing is for certain: when a woman walks out on stage or enters an interview room, it quickly becomes apparent to the audience and to the judges if she’s “got it” or if she doesn’t. First impressions can make or break a contestant. So what separates those who’ve “got it” from those who don’t? The wardrobe? The hair? The makeup? No. While each of these are important to make a good first impression, the single most important factor that makes the strong contestants stand apart from the others is the fact that they have personal brands.

What is a personal brand? Put simply, it is the thoughts, feelings, and perceptions that other people have about you. Personal brands are not unlike commercial brands. We are surrounded by brands in our everyday lives: walking down the street, watching TV, surfing the web, or reading a magazine, we see a logo or hear a brand name and immediately we have formed thoughts, feelings, and perceptions about what that brand represents. We have brand loyalty when we enjoy the experience that brand brings, and it is delivered consistently and reliably every time. We tend to disassociate with brands whose experience we don’t enjoy or who cannot deliver their experiences with consistency.

Here’s the thing: each of us has a personal brand, whether we want one or not. Every interaction you have with another person whether it be face-to-face, on the phone, via social networking sites, etc. is an opportunity for other people to experience you. Are you conscious of what that experience is? Is it an experience others would want to have again? And are you being consistent in your interactions with others? Would everyone walk away with the same impression of you?

The ultimate question is what are you doing to control your personal brand? There are three essential stages to having a consistent personal brand in your interactions with others. They are (1) self-awareness, (2) self-confidence, and (3) self-actualization. Each of these stages provides a foundation for the next, so let’s explore each of them in order.
